About events in English at the Palace and Park in Wilanów 

The Museum of King Jan III’s Palace at Wilanów in Warsaw is a baroque summer residence of King Jan III Sobieski and his wife, Queen Maria Kazimiera. The Museum offers plenty of events IN ENGLISH – weekend guided tours in the Palace, monthly Saturday nature tours of the royal gardens, and dozens of workshops for the groups of adults or children (royal cuisine cooking workshops, observing animals with binoculars, court dancing, calligraphy, and more).

“See the Palace” – guided tour IN ENGLISH – the history and design of the Wilanów Palace interiors

  • When: every Saturday and Sunday
  • 12 pm
  • Location: Wilanów district of Warsaw, the Museum of King Jan III’s Palace (Muzeum Pałacu Króla Jana III w Wilanowie), Stanisława Kostki Potockiego 10/16 Street (location on a map)
  • Meeting point: cloakroom in the Palace
  • Tickets: regular ticket 25 PLN, reduced ticket 20 PLN, 1 PLN ticket for students aged 7-16, children up to 7 free entrance (online tickets)
  • You don’t pay extra for a guide (guide service is included in the ticket price)
  • The guides/educators will talk about the stages of the building of the residence, the architects, painters, sculptors involved, and its famous owner – King Jan III. Together, the participants of the tour will decipher the symbolism hidden in paintings and sculptures, as well as the functions of rooms and objects that can be found on the sightseeing route

“Nature walks in the Wilanów gardens” – educational walk for children and adults guided IN ENGLISH

  • When: once a month on Saturday
  • 11 am – 12.30 pm
  • Location: Wilanów district of Warsaw, the park of the Museum of King Jan III’s Palace (Muzeum Pałacu Króla Jana III w Wilanowie), Stanisława Kostki Potockiego 10/16 Street (location on a map)
  • Meeting point: a park next to the ticket office (small yellow building in the park in front of the Palace). Meeting point on a map (a ticket office / kasa muzeum marked as no. 1)
  • Tickets: 10 PLN (online tickets)
  • You don’t pay extra for a guide (guide service is included in the ticket price)
  • Everyone who loves nature is invited to the Gardens of Wilanów to discover the beauty of the four seasons in royal gardens and landscape parks. Come and find out what species of animals and plants you can observe in the king Jan III’s residence and how nature changes throughout the year. Each of the trips will reveal the secrets of another topic regarding the biodiversity and natural heritage of the royal residence in Wilanów
  • 2020 schedule:
    • March 21, 2020. Nature is waking from winter’s sleep: With the first rays of the sun in spring, nature wakes up from its wintry stupor. We invite you for a trip in search of signs of spring in Wilanów gardens.
    • April 25, 2020. A carpet of flowers: Even without human involvement, nature can create astounding floral compositions. Especially in spring when we can admire the whole carpets of flowers. Come to the Gardens of Wilanów and get to know how rich and fascinating is the world under your feet
    • May 23, 2020. Looking for flowers and butterflies: May is a time of continual change in nature. The flowers of early spring wither and are replaced by numerous other species. Colourful flowers attract insects, including butterflies. Let’s take a walk through the landscape parks of Wilanów and try to find them
    • June 20, 2020. In the gardens of King Jan III: Nowadays in the gardens of Wilanów, you may admire some parts that resemble the ones that were here in the days of King Jan III and some that look completely different. Come and learn a history of the palace gardens in Wilanów
    • July 18, 2020. To the water: When it’s warm outside, it’s good to go to the water. So many interesting things are happening over there! We invite you for a trip in search of dragonflies, water lilies, terns and many other species that inhabit the Wilanowskie Lake
    • August 22, 2020. The Wilanów farm: Why would the King need a farm? Jan III was famous not only as a notable monarch and valiant warrior. He appreciated the pleasures of living in the country, away from the city. What were the components of the historic farm? Are there any remnants? Let’s find out
    • September 26, 2020. Let’s go: As we return from our summer travels, nature is engaging in preparations for major autumn migration. During our September walk, we will pay particular attention to movement, not only that resulting from the migration of birds but in a more general sense
    • October 17, 2020. Among the falling leaves: Where do the glorious colours of autumn come from? To answer this question, we have to look deep inside the leaves. Leaves’ shapes are also interesting. Let’s go for a trip among the falling leaves
    • November 21, 2020. A box of curiosities: Did you know that collecting is an ancient hobby? During the walk, we will talk about collections and how to become a collector. Participants will have the possibility to see various interesting exhibits and start creating own collection of natural curiosities
    • December 12, 2020. A winter meeting with the birds: What kinds of birds visit the feeders in the park? Why do we hang out lard for birds to eat in the winter? If you want to find out more about birds and their winter habits we invite you to winter ornithological walk

Tours in English Museum and Palace i WIlanow Warsaw Poland

Workshops IN ENGLISH for groups of children and/or adults

  • “The Royal Family” (dedicated to children aged 4–6). History class in the Palace developed especially for preschoolers. During the walk around the oldest part of the Palace children will get to know all royal family members and unravel funny nicknames given to the princess and princes. They will discover in what way a palace is different from a castle and how royal family spent time at Wilanów
  • “A Visit to the King” ( dedicated to children aged 6–12). History class in the Palace. Although King Jan III will not be our host in his palace in person, children will get to know him quite well while visiting chambers where he resided over 300 years ago
  • “The Palace Interiors and their Symbolism” (dedicated to children aged 13–19). Participants will learn during the class that the ability of careful observation is the key to understanding symbolic and allegoric meanings of the art
  • “Green Expedition” (dedicated to children aged 4–9). An outdoor workshop in the Wilanów park about animals and plants
  • “Nature Observatory at Wilanów Gardens” (dedicated to children aged 10–15). An outdoor workshop in the Wilanów park learning about animals and plants with magnifying glasses and binoculars
  • “Calligraphy – (un)forgotten Art” (dedicated to children aged 7–19 and adults). During the workshop participants will discover the artistry of drawing letters in English handwriting, they will sit at wooden stands and try to write both with a quill pen and with a nib in a penholder. Workshops take place in a unique scenery of palace interiors or a historic tent arranged as the old scriptorium
  • “In the Traditional Polish Kitchen” (dedicated to children aged 7–19 and adults). During the workshop participants will discover old tastes and traditions. Under the watchful eye of professional cooks and with the help of culinary educators they will prepare dishes following the recipes taken from the first Polish cookbooks. In the end, participants will sit down and taste the prepared dishes
  • “Feast Days in the Traditional Polish Kitchen” (dedicated to children aged 7–19 and adults). During workshops, participants will discover how people prepared for feast days in the Old Polish times, especially in the kitchen. They will also learn about old customs observed on feast days and find out why they were so important. Participants will also make old Polish dishes and later have a feast
  • “At the Royal Table” (dedicated to children aged 7–19 and adults). A culinary workshop combined with elements of good table manners and King Jan III’s cuisine. Participants will discover which dishes appeared on the royal table and which ones were among our ruler’s favourites. You will discover how feasts were prepared as well as learn about the rules of savoir-faire at the table in the 17th century. Participants will prepare together royal dishes following old recipes and, in the end, lay the table and sit down to have a feast
  • “Tastes of Warsaw” (dedicated to children aged 7–19 and adults). During culinary workshops, participants will taste the independence of the 20s and 30s of the 20th century when Polish cuisine was a rich combination of various culinary traditions, tastes, possibilities and fashions. Under the watchful eye of professional cooks and with culinary educators’ help participants will prepare dishes following the recipes of cookery books published at the beginning of the 20th century and sit down at the table to taste prepared dishes
  • “Dancing Court” (dedicated to children aged 13–19 and adults). Dancing was one of King Sobieski’s most favourite forms of entertainment and was organized on many occasions and as frequently as possible. Let’s try our hand at old dances – starting from basic steps and finishing at 17th-century polonaises, contradances and choreographies of court dances. This form of physical exercise shaped glamour, elegance and an upright silhouette, which we are also going to emphasize while mastering bows and elements of etiquette observed at King Jan III’s court
  • “History and Symbolism of Palace Interiors” – a tour of the Palace (dedicated to adults). Participants will learn about the Palace’s history and creators: painters, sculptors, architects and numerous residents, including the most illustrious one – King Jan III. In the royal chambers, they will take a closer look at decorations and mythological scenes presented in the paintings
  • “Tour of the Wilanów Gardens” (dedicated to adults). The Wilanów residence is surrounded by wonderful royal gardens. During the walk, participants will discover various types of garden compositions. They will find elements characteristic for Baroque, English and English-Chinese gardens during the practical part of the workshop and discuss the role of the sculptures placed in the greenery
  • “Chefs’ Secrets” (dedicated to adults). A culinary workshop in the royal kitchen where participants will discover chefs’ secrets. Chefs will teach you how to whet your appetite and stimulate your imagination; how to surprise your guests with extraordinary culinary ideas. Participants will cook based on original recipes coming from the first Polish cookbooks
  • “Appetite for Warsaw – Cuisine of the Period Between Wars, 1918–1939” (dedicated to adults). Get familiar with Warsaw tastes of the 20s and 30s of the 20th century, take a trip around the most famous old restaurants of the capital city. Participants will learn about culinary traditions, tastes, opportunities and fashions of the period between two major wars. They will prepare dishes following the recipes from cookbooks coming from the beginning of the 20th century. In the end, they will sit down at the table and taste the extraordinary dishes
  • Group cannot be bigger than up to 25 participants
  • Cost of museum classes and workshop for children and youth: 10 PLN/participant + 180 PLN/group
  • Cost of theme walk in the palace and workshop for adults: 25 PLN – regular ticket or 20 PLN – discount ticket/participant + 180 PLN/group
  • Cost of theme walk in the park for adults: 7 PLN – regular ticket or 4 PLN – discount ticket/participant + 180 PLN/group
  • Cost of a culinary workshop for children and youth: 20 PLN/participant + 500 PLN/group
  • Cost of a culinary workshop for adults: 30 PLN – regular ticket or 25 PLN – discount ticket/participant + 700 PLN/group
