About Planetarium of the Copernicus Science Centre in Warsaw (“The Heavens of Copernicus”)

The Planetarium is one of the most modern planetariums in Europe (open in 2011). It’s located next to the Copernicus Science Center. The Planetarium screens films for kids at a different age – some for 3+ audience, and some shows for teenagers (2D and 3D screenings). It’s an unforgettable experience for adults and children! All of the screenings can also be viewed in the English audio version with headphones (and some in Ukrainian or Russian). The Planetarium is very friendly to English-speaking families – its website is all in English and it’s very easy to find info about audience age or language options, the Planetarium staff speak good English.

What is available in English

  • The whole website content, including repertoire, online tickets etc.
  • The staff speak good English
  • All ticketed films and screenings at the Planetarium are available in English.
  • You can borrow headphones at the ticket desk. The website says you have to leave your ID as a deposit (student’s ID, driver’s license, ID, passport) but I learn at the ticket desk that it’s not necessary
  • Usually, before the film, there is about 10-minute live presentation in Polish by an astronomer. It’s not possible to skip it

How to get there

  • The Planetarium is located in the PowiÅ›le district, right on the Vistula river bank, at the back of the main building of the Copernicus Science Center (to get there, face the Vistula River and the Copernicus main entrance, turn right and go behind the Copernicus building)
  • By car: On weekdays the Planetarium area is within paid parking zone, on weekends it’s free. The visitors can park on small streets around the Copernicus. However, it may be difficult to find a free spot
  • By bus: 118, 127, 105 (bus stop: Biblioteka Uniwersytecka); 185 (bus stop in tunnel: Metro Centrum Nauki Kopernik); 102, 162 (bus stop: Metro Centrum Nauki Kopernik)
  • By metro: M2 line, Centrum Nauki Kopernik stop (requires 2-minute walk)

Tickets

  • Regular ticket: 22 PLN
  • Reduced ticket: 16 PLN, available for children, students up to 26, seniors over 65, persons with disabilities
  • Tickets can be purchased at the Planetarium’s ticket desk or online (you need to register first, you can use your Copernicus Science Center login). The best option is to buy online tickets in advance, especially during weekends when all tickets can be sold out
  • Please note that you can go out of the room during the screening, but there is no possibility to return to the session

Other information

  • Admission to the Planetarium only for children over 3 years old
  • Blue Sky Cafe is located on 0 level of the Planetarium, next to the ticket desk. The menu includes sandwiches, cakes, coffee, tea etc. (it is not allowed to enter the projection room with food and drinks)
  • The films screened in the Planetarium last about 1 hour
  • The seats have tilted backs so it’s comfortable to watch the film no matter in which part of the room you have your seats
  • There is a free cloakroom on the 0 level
  • Before or after the screening, you can visit a small exhibition called “Look: there’s the Earth!”. You will find it on the three floors of the Planetarium
  • The projection room is located on +1 level
  • Next to the Planetarium there are newly opened Vistula boulevards – a great opportunity for a nice walk, not only during summertime
  • After or before your visit to the Planetarium, you can have a walk in the Copernicus Science Center roof garden (free entrance) offering a view of Warsaw. Opening hours: May – August: 10 am – 8 pm, September – October: 10 am- 5 pm
