Attractions in the city of Wrocław: Zoo and Africarium

The Wroclaw Zoo is not only the oldest zoo in Poland, but it also includes Africarium – the only oceanarium in the world dedicated to Africa’s water environment and the top tourist attraction in Poland.

How to get to Wroclaw Zoo?

  • The Zoo in Wroclaw is located about 4 km from the Market Square
  • The main entrance to the Wroclaw Zoo is located at Wróblewskiego 1-5 Street
  • There are 2 seasonal entrances (open April 1 – September 30, the same opening hours as the main entrance) to the Zoo in Wroclaw
    • The Japanese Gate / Brama JapoÅ„ska is located on the side of the river. It is a nice option to leave the Wroclaw Zoo through the Japanese Gate (follow the signs ‘Brama JapoÅ„ska’) and take a cruise back to the center of Wroclaw (cash only). Click here to view the map of cruising routes
    • The Automatic Gate / Brama Automatyczna, entrance from Wróblewskiego Street, on the left from the main entrance (ticket machines only), next to the Zoo tram stop
  • By car: The nearest parking spaces are located at Wystawowa Street. You can also leave your car in an underground paid 24-hour parking lot (800 spaces) next to Hala Stulecia / Centennial Hall (entrance from Kopernika Street)
  • By bus: 145, 146 (Hala Stulecia Stop)
  • By tram: 1, 2, 4, 10, 16 (Zoo stop and Hala Stulecia stop)
  • Wroclaw Zoo is located in the vicinity of other tourist attractions of Wroclaw (Hala Stulecia / Centennial Hall, Wroclaw multimedia fountain, Japanese garden)

Tickets to Wroclaw Zoo

  • Current ticket prices on the Zoo’s website
  • Children up to 3 free entrance
  • You can pay with a card at the ticket office
  • The Zoo can be crowded (especially during weekends and holidays) – it is recommended to buy tickets online to skip the line
  • A ticket to the ZOO also entitles you to visit Africarium/Oceanarium

Opening hours at Wroclaw Zoo

  • The Zoo in Wroclaw is open every day, including Sundays and all public holidays
  • The opening hours apply to Oceanarium / Africarium too
  • January, February, November, and December:
    • 9 am – 4 pm
  • March and October:
    • 9 am – 5 pm
  • April, May, June, July, August, September:
    • Monday – Thursday: 9 am – 6 pm
    • Friday – Sunday, bank holidays: 9 am – 7 pm

Africarium / Oceanarium in Wroclaw Zoo

  • Africarium – opened in 2014 – is the only oceanarium in the world dedicated to Africa’s water environment and wildlife. The name Africarium was created from the combination of the words Africa and Aquarium
  • Africarium is located within the area of Wroclaw Zoo and you do NOT need to buy any separate entrance tickets to Africarium
  • The opening hours of Africarium are the same as the whole of Wroclaw Zoo
  • It is recommended to start visiting the Zoo in Wroclaw from Africarium since it’s the most popular (and crowded!) attraction in the Wroclaw Zoo. The best option to avoid crowds is to visit the Wroclaw Zoo and Africarium in the morning at 9 am

Other information

  • To skip the line and avoid crowds, it is recommended to visit the Wroclaw Zoo in the morning, preferably at 9 am. The Zoo in Wroclaw is a fantastic tourist attraction and top tourist attraction in Poland in terms of sold tickets (the fifth place among European zoos and aquariums). If you arrive in the morning, lines are short and Africarium is not so crowded
  • Other attractions for kids in the Zoo in Wroclaw include:
    • Pony rides for children up to 10 years old, available May 1 – September 30, weekdays 11 am – 3 pm, weekends and holidays 11 am – 5 pm. Tickets (20 PLN) for the rides may be purchased from the ticket vending machine next to the stable
    • Rope park (park linowy, website in Polish) dedicated to children aged 3+ and adults, open every day in May, June, July, and August (10 am – 6 pm), and during weekends only in April, September, and October
