What attracts a million tourists a year to the town of Kazimierz Dolny? Architecture, rich history, long walking and cycling routes.

Kazimierz Dolny is a small town on the Vistula River. Its history dates back to the 11th century. The entire area of the town is within the Kazimierz Landscape Park. The landscape is dominated by the Vistula River which is the most picturesque and unique in the vicinity of Kazimierz Dolny (hence the second informal name of the town – Kazimierz nad Wisłą – Kazimierz on the Vistula River).

How to get to Kazimierz Dolny?

  • The town of Kazimierz Dolny is located in Lublin Voivodeship, on the Eastern bank of the Vistula river.
  • Location on Google map.
  • The most convenient way to get to Kazimierz Dolny is by car. Approximate (depending on traffic) travel time by car to Kazimierz Dolny from: Warsaw 1 hrs 50 mins, Kraków 3 hrs 45 mins, Poznań 5 hrs, Gdańsk 5 hrs 45 mins, Łódź 3 hrs 30 mins, Katowice 4 hrs 10 mins, Lublin 55 mins.

What to explore in Kazimierz Dolny

  • Small cobblestone market square (rynek). There are many restaurants and cafes around the square.
  • Ruins of a medieval castle. You will find the ticket office in the castle. The castle and tower are located on the hill – it may be difficult to get there with a stroller.
  • The Hill of Three Crosses (Góra Trzech Krzyży) – 270 m from the market square, the crosses commemorate victims of the 18th-century plagues. Magnificent view of the city. Please note it may be difficult to get there with a stroller. You need to buy admission tickets.
  • Vistula river: you can have a nice walk along the river bank and during summertime, there are one-hour cruises on the Vistula river.
  • Jewish history: Jewish community started to settle in Kazimierz Dolny in the 13th century. Before the Second World War the Jews constituted half of the population. Nowadays there is the synagogue building and the old Jewish cemetery.
  • About 2 km from Kazimierz there is a small ski area where you can teach your kids how to ski (Stacja Kazimierz, http://stacjakazimierz.pl/).
  • On the official website of the town of Kazimierz Dolny, you will find a map of hiking trails and biking routes.
  • Many impressive gorges (a gorge in Polish: wąwóz) – they are very interesting hiking trails. To visit one of them please enter its name to the Google navigation, eg. Korzeniowy Dół – the most picturesque one, 2,3 km from the market square, you can get there by car, Wąwóz Małachowskiego – 350 m from the market square, Wąwóz Niezabitowskich – 2 km from the market square.
  • Skiing in Kazimierz. Kazimierz Dolny ski resort (Stacja Narciarska Kazimierz Dolny) is located 3 km from Kazimierz. Kazimierz Dolny ski resort offers 6 ski routes: 590 m, 470 m, 250 m, 210 m, a route dedicated to snowboarding, and a carpet ski lift (110 m). Do not leave Kazimierz Dolny until you buy the pastry called KOGUT – the rooster-shaped semi-sweet bread – the symbol of Kazimierz Dolny.
