About Akademeia High School

Akademeia High School is an academically-selective international school in Warsaw, offering iGCSEs and A Levels and preparing students for the best universities in the world. Akademeia believes that a good university experience starts in school, which is why it looks, feels, and operates like a university.

The admissions process begins with the academic potential assessment, which was created with the aim of uncovering the academic knowledge and talents held by each student. Akademeia focuses on developing both students’ academic abilities and their artistic, athletic, and leadership potential. The school supports exceptionally capable students with academic and artistic scholarships. It also offers a boarding house.

The school is located in a purpose-built site in Wilanów in 2017. All classes are conducted exclusively in English. Akademeia is an accredited UCAS center, Cambridge International, Edexcel (Pearson) and AQA examination center for the English GCE Advanced Levels which form the curriculum in the last two years.

In 2024, Akademeia gained the prestigious accreditation from the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI), becoming the first British School Overseas in Poland, approved by the UK Department for Education.

Curriculum and educational offer:

  • At Akademeia, the academic curriculum is designed to prepare students for the challenges of studying at the finest universities, in the UK, USA and the rest of Europe
  • The School academic staff have developed their own original curriculum for the first (Year 10) and the second (Year 11) years of study of Akademeia High School, while the two subsequent school years focus on the British A Level programme. A Level gives students full freedom regarding exam choice. Students choose 3 or 4 subjects from within a wide spectrum of departments. The A Level programme is characterized by a high level of specialization in the chosen field, giving students at the high school level to get a head start in the direction of their studies. In preparing for the exams, Akademeia students obtain a top-level education in their chosen subjects, while they may simultaneously pursue their passions and interests beyond the normal school curriculum

  • Akademeia High School’s Exam Centre is accredited by a number of boards and organizations to administer examinations on their behalf, including:
    • A Levels and GCSE with Cambridge International Education Assessment (CIE)
    • International A Levels, International GCSE, A Levels, and GCSE with Pearson Edexcel
    • A Levels and GCSE with AQA

“Each of us has a specific set of characteristics, interests and skills that, when taken together, represent our personal potential. Studying the subjects that match our skills, passions and predispositions is the best way to fulfil that potential. We believe that every student has a ‘strong side’, and that school should be a place where these talents can be discovered, developed and utilized. We know how to direct students down the educational path that is most appropriate for them.“

The language of instruction:

  • All classes are conducted exclusively in English

The Application Process

During the various stages of application, we aim to learn as much as possible about the skills and aptitudes of the student in order to assess their suitability for our school.

On request, parents can meet individually with an admissions tutor to learn more about how the school functions, the requirements of the academic programme, the school’s teaching philosophy and the later stages of the recruitment process.

The application process lasts for two days and is conducted over the course of a single weekend.

  • Year 9 and 10 assessment weekends include:

  1. English Language and Mathematics competency tests in order to ascertain the candidate’s current attainment in these core subjects.
  2. A range of verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning and creative comprehension online tests.
  3. A group task, in which we assess students’ teamworking and communication skills, as well as their ability to digest information in a classroom setting.
  4. An individual meeting with a subject teacher, in which we assess the candidate’s current knowledge and their approach to learning.

  • Year 11 (Pre-A) assessment weekends include:

  1. English Language and Mathematics competency tests in order to ascertain the candidate’s current attainment in these core subjects.
  2. A range of verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning and creative comprehension online tests.
  3. A written and oral test in the candidate’s preferred modern foreign language.
  4. Individual meetings with subject teachers of the academic pathway the candidate wishes to pursue, in which we assess the candidate’s current knowledge and their approach to learning.

  • Year 12 assessment weekends include:

  1. An English Language competency test in order to ascertain the candidate’s current proficiency (and a Mathematics test if it is an A Level choice).
  2. A range of verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning and creative comprehension online tests.
  3. A meeting with a panel made up of the Admissions and University and Professional Guidance departments, and the Head of Sixth Form. This helps us determine the candidate’s suitability for their A Level preferences and provides a valuable opportunity for candidates to learn about higher education and career pathways.
  4. Individual meetings with subject teachers. Students will meet with teachers of their subjects of choice to assess their current proficiency and approach to learning.

  • Assessment weekends for students applying for the 2025/2026 academic year are scheduled as follows:

  • 17-18 January 2025
  • 21-22 March 2025

“Architecture should stimulate, inspire and give students the feeling of being in an important and unique place. We want our school to be a place where students don’t want to leave. In September 2017 we moved to the new building. Together with the Medusa Group, an award-winning architectural office, we constructed the most modern school building in Poland.”
