Day trip from Warsaw: Medieval castle ruins in Czersk, 40 km from Warsaw

The medieval, Gothic castle in Czersk was built at the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries. Although it has been heavily damaged over the centuries, its gothic towers and walls still attract those who love history. There is another reason why it is worth visiting Czersk – great views of the Vistula river valley, space, and relaxing silence. Especially during spring or summertime when it is green all around.

Czersk (40 km south of Warsaw), a charming village surrounded by orchards on the high Vistula embankment, was once the capital of Mazovia and the seat of the Mazovian dukes.

Tickets: Monday 2 PLN, Tuesday-Friday: regular ticket 16 PLN, reduced ticket 11 PLN. Weekends October-April: regular ticket 16 PLN, reduced ticket 11 PLN. Weekends May-September: regular ticket 18 PLN, reduced ticket 13 PLN. Children up to 4 free entrance. Ticket prices may change during the events.
Opening hours: January – February 10 am – 3 pm (closed on Mondays). March 10 am – 5 pm. April 10 am – 6 pm. May – August 10 am – 8 pm. September 10 am – 6 pm. October 10 am – 5 pm. November – December 10 am – 3 pm (closed on Mondays).
The Castles is closed on the following days: January 1, January 6, Easter Sunday, November 1, December 24-26, and December 31.
Every weekend from the beginning of May to the end of September, special events take place at the Castle – archaeological picnics (they present everyday life in various historical periods – presentation of old crafts, martial arts, cuisine).

Do not expect to visit the castle chambers and museum exhibits in Czersk. What you will find there are 3 towers you can climb and castle walls. However, it’s worth visiting – thanks to the combination of the atmosphere of a medieval castle and breathtaking views of the green surroundings.

Knight’s tournaments and medieval picnics are organized several times a year at the Czersk Castle.
