16th Warsaw Art Fair (Warszawskie Targi Sztuki)
Location: Arkady Kubickiego (Kubicki Arcades) at the Warsaw Royal Castle, entrance from Bugaj Street. 50 Polish and foreign galleries and antique shops – nearly 1,000 works of art including paintings, sculptures, antique objects, photography, design, and graphics. Thames British School Open House & Family Fun Day

Bunkasai – Japanese Culture Festival
Location: Saska Kępa Cultural Center “PROM”, Brukselska 23 Street. Attractions include an exhibition of young artists and designers, a performance of special Japanese technical skills, workshops (artistic/Japanese craftsmanship/for small children/traditional Japanese games), lectures and presentations, screenings of films, Japanese food, concerts, and dance performances. ‘World in Focus’ – Warsaw International Gathering
Location: Creativity Center Targowa (Centrum Kreatywności Targowa), Targowa 56 Street (Praga), Friday 10.30 am – 6.30 pm, Saturday 10 am – 4.30 pm, free entrance (registration required). 34th International Warsaw Film Festival (Warszawski Festiwal Filmowy)
Location: Kinoteka movie theater (located in the Palace of Culture and Science) and Multikino Złote Tarasy movie theater (located in Złote Tarasy shopping center). The biggest international film festival in Poland. All films will be screened with Polish and English subtitles. More info in English, including the detailed agenda. The International Theatre Festival for Early Years “TAKE PART IN ART” 
Location: the Old Armory (Stara Prochownia) building at Boleść 2 Street (the Old Town). Performances for children aged 0,6-6. Artists from the Netherlands, Germany, France, Italy, Slovenia, Belgium. More in English.

“The Royal Garden of Lights” – illuminations festival in the Wilanów Garden
Location: Wilanów Garden, Stanisława Kostki Potockiego 10/16 Street. Opening hours October 13 – October 31, 2018: 5 pm – 9 pm; November 2, 2018 – February 24, 2019: 4 pm – 9 pm. Monday – Thursday, regular tickets 10 PLN, reduced tickets 5 PLN. Friday – Sunday, regular tickets 20 PLN, reduced tickets 10 PLN. Free admission for children under 7 (every day). It can be crowded during weekends, buy tickets online to skip the line. Sunday trading ban – stores are closed
There are new regulations in Poland – stores can operate only 2 Sundays a month (usually first and last Sunday of the month). In October 2018, there is a trading ban on October 14 and October 21. Trade ban does NOT include cinemas, restaurants, cafés, small local stores where the owner can work, stores at gas stations, flower shops, pharmacies. Shopping malls can be open but most of the stores inside will be closed (only cinemas, restaurants, pharmacies in shopping malls can be open). You can always do basic shopping at the gas stations (24/7).

Teachers’ Day in Poland (Dzień Nauczyciela)
In Polish schools, there are no regular classes on this day. Usually, there is the inauguration event for first-year students (ślubowanie) and older kids either do not go to school or have some fun activities. Students give teachers flowers and/or gifts. This year, October 14 falls on Sunday so schools will celebrate either on Friday, October 12 or on Monday, October 15.

Railway Modeling Event (Giełda Modelarska)
Location: Warsaw Railway Museum (Stacja Muzeum), Towarowa 3 Street (Wola), 10 am – 2 pm (the Museum is open on Sundays 9 am – 5 pm). A chance to buy model railways and trains and meet railway modeling enthusiasts. During the event reduced tickets for everyone (6 PLN, children up to 7 free entrance). The Museum website in English. International World Travel Show – Tourism Trade Fair (Międzynarodowe Targi Turystyczne) 
Location: Ptak Warsaw Expo in Nadarzyn, Al. Katowicka 62 Street, 05-830 Wolica 114D, online tickets, Friday 10 am – 6 pm, Saturday 10 am – 6 pm, Sunday 10 am – 5 pm. Location: Akademeia High School, Ledóchowskiej 2 Street (Wilanów), free entrance, 10 am – 2 pm. Akademeia is a private, English-speaking high school offering a multi-dimensional education and a thorough preparation for application to prestigious universities in the UK, USA and the rest of Europe. Sunday trading ban – stores are closed

Local government elections in Poland
Opening hours of the polling stations: 7 am – 9 pm. Who can vote? Polish citizens aged 18+. Foreigners (aged 18+) who are the citizens the European Union, have registration of residency (zameldowanie) in a given Polish city, and are enrolled in the voting registry can vote on president/mayor (wójt/burmistrz/prezydent) and on city council/municipal council (rada gminy). They cannot vote on county council (rada powiatu) and voivodship/regional council (sejmik województwa). Detailed information and link to the forms in Polish. Location: Wilanów Palace Garden, Stanisława Kostki Potockiego 10/16 Street, 11 am – 12.30 pm, meeting point at the ticket office (small yellow building). Time change in PolandTime change (zmiana czasu)
On Sunday, October 28, at 03:00 am clocks are turned backward 1 hour to 02:00 am. It may be the last time change in Poland since the European Commission recommended to end seasonal time changes in 2019 throughout the European Union, leaving member states the freedom to decide their standard time. Consultation proved that more than 80% of the European Union citizens are against the practice of changing the clocks in spring and autumn.

Art Fair (Targowisko Sztuki)

Halloween
Halloween is relatively new in Poland, a few years ago it was almost impossible to buy a pumpkin this time of year. Now pumpkin carving and pumpkin decorations are more and more popular at schools and homes. In bars and restaurants, there are themed parties for adults and costume parties for kids at schools. More and more children in Poland are dressing up and playing trick or treat (cukierek albo psikus).
