  • August 1

Warsaw Uprising Remembrance Day (Dzień Pamięci Powstania Warszawskiego)
The anniversary of the outbreak of the Warsaw Uprising in 1944 against the Nazis. At precisely 5 pm all the Warsaw city sirens sound and lots of cars and pedestrians stop to commemorate and contemplate people who died in 1944.

24th International Open Air Festival “Jazz at the Old Town” (Jazz na Starówce)
Free jazz concerts each Saturday (7 pm) in August on the stage in the Old Town. Click here to read more in English.

  • August 3 – September 29

Multimedia Fountain Park – an evening special show each Friday and Saturday
Location: Skwer Dywizji 1 (city center). Fountains operate every day from 8.30 am to 10.30 pm. The multimedia show at 9.30 pm on Fridays and Saturdays (fountains, laser, music, and lights), free entrance. This season: “The Bear Prince Legend”. Warsaw by nigh – viewing platform of the Palace of Culture
Location: Viewing platform on the 30th floor of the Palace of Culture and Science. It’s open every day 10 am – 8 pm. During summertime (until the end of September), the platform is open additionally on Fridays and Saturdays until 11.30 pm. Click here to check out our tips in English on visiting the platform.

Weekend picnic at the medieval castle in Czersk
Location: Czersk Castle (Zamek w Czersku), Plac Tysiąclecia 1, 05-530 Czersk (south of Warsaw, 45 km from the center of Warsaw), 12 pm – 6 pm. Attractions include court and plebeian fashion show, sword fighting shows, archery track, weapons and armor, games, various crafts. Facebook event in Polish.

Chopin music live recital in the Birthplace of Frederic Chopin

‘Open Ząbkowska’ Festival (Otwarta Ząbkowska)
Location: Ząbkowska Street (Praga), free entrance, 11 am – 10 pm. The Festival program includes concerts, art workshop for children and adults, art fair, an art exhibition. Facebook event in Polish. Detailed agenda in Polish.

“Art Park” – Outdoor festival of art and culture
Location: Park Marszałka Edwarda Rydza-Śmigłego, Rozbrat Street (close to Plac Trzech Krzyży / Three Crosses Square), free entrance. Every day concerts, workshops, dance parties, film screenings. Detailed agenda in Polish.

‘Walks through the Warsaw ZOO’ – guided tours in English and Spanish
Location: Warsaw Zoo, Ratuszowa 1/3 Street (Praga), the tours are free (organized by the Warsaw Zoo volunteers) but you need to buy entrance tickets to the Zoo. 14th International Music festival “Chopin and His Europe”
An International music festival. Concerts are held at the Concert Studio of the Polish Radio, Warsaw Philharmonic, Royal Castle Concert Hall, and the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera. Click here to read more in English.

Natural Ice Cream Festival
Location: Bulwar Flotylli Wiślanej (the Vistula boulevard between Most Poniatowskiego bridge and Most Łazienkowski bridge), free entrance, 12 pm – 7 pm. Facebook event in Polish.

Sunday trading ban – stores are closed
There are new regulations in Poland – stores can operate only 2 Sundays a month (usually first and last Sunday of the month). In August 2018, there is a trading ban on August 12 and August 19. Trade ban does NOT include cinemas, restaurants, cafés, small local stores where the owner can work, stores at gas stations, flower shops, pharmacies. Shopping malls can be open but most of the stores inside will be closed (only cinemas, restaurants, pharmacies in shopping malls can be open).

Night of Shooting Stars
Location: Park next to the Copernicus Center and the Vistula Boulevard, Wybrzeże Kościuszkowskie 20 Street (Powiśle), free entrance, 9 pm – 12 am. Perseid maximum (Perseids Meteor Shower) occurs on August 12. Illumination of the area (bridges, the National Stadium, entrance to the metro etc.) will be switched off between 9 pm and 12 am to improve the experience. It will be allowed to lie on the grass in the park. More in Polish.

Railway Modeling Event (Giełda Modelarska)
Location: Warsaw Railway Museum (Stacja Muzeum), Towarowa 3 Street (Wola), 10 am – 2 pm (the Museum is open on Sundays 9 am – 5 pm). A chance to buy model railways and trains and meet railway modeling enthusiasts. During the event reduced tickets for everyone (6 PLN, children up to 7 free entrance). The Museum website in English. Polish Army Day – a bank holiday
Polish Army Day is marking the 1920 breakthrough battle called Cud nad Wisłą (the Miracle on the Vistula river) between the Poles under Marshal Piłsudski and the Bolsheviks. The main celebrations are held at Pilsudski Square (Plac Piłsudskiego), including parades and the president speech. August 15 marks also the Assumption of Mary celebrations in Poland which focus on The Sanctuary of Jasna Góra in Częstochowa – on August 15 a pilgrimage (pielgrzymka) destination for many people walking hundreds of kilometers for days from all over Poland. Stores, malls, shopping centers closed, only some smaller local convenience stores can be open (eg. Żabka). You can do basic shopping at gas stations (24h).

Indian Independence day – Vande Mataram Festival
Location: area next to the Palace of Culture and Science, 12 pm – 10 pm, free entrance. Attractions include Indian fashion show, dance shows, family picnic, Indian martial arts, yoga, dance, cooking workshops. Click here to read more in English. Facebook event in Polish.

International Food Festival
Location: area next to the Palace of Culture and Science (Marszałkowska Street side), 12 pm – 10 pm, free entrance. The event is a part of Indian Independence Day celebrations. Facebook event in Polish and English.

Męskie Granie” concert tour
The concert tour (Polish musicians) organized in the summertime in major Polish cities, on August 18 in Warsaw. Location: Fort Bema (Bemowo). Click here to read more in Polish.

Food Truck Festival (Żarcie na Kółkach)

“Adventurous Nature Walk” – educational walk guided IN ENGLISH
Location: Wilanów Palace Garden, Stanisława Kostki Potockiego 10/16 Street, 11 am – 12.30 pm, meeting point at the ticket office (small yellow building). Click here to buy tickets online (10 PLN).
